New Report Shows Strong Growth In Consumer-Focused Private Equity Investment

B2B Continues to Lead Industries for PE Investment in Q2 2017

WASHINGTON – Private equity investment in Consumer Products and Services (B2C) grew over 60 percent during the second quarter of 2017, rising to $31 billion from $19 billion in Q1, according to the American Investment Council’s (AIC) Q2 2017 Industry Investment Report.

Private equity invested $39 billion in Business Products and Services (B2B), followed closely by Consumer Products and Services (B2C) and Information Technology, which attracted $24 billion in Q2 investments.

“This latest report underscores private equity’s broad range of industry investment,” said AIC President and CEO Mike Sommers. “In the first half of 2017 private equity has continued to serve as an economic driver and spur business growth.”

While investment volumes and the number of deals decreased in Healthcare, B2C, and Energy compared to Q1, they remain in line with historical averages. Additionally, despite a dip in investment volumes and deals, energy fundraising grew to $1.5 billion in Q2 from $640 million raised in Q1.

“With more than $250 billion in total investments in the first half of 2017, the industry is proving its ability to maintain deal flow as record amounts of capital enters into PE funds,” said AIC Vice President of Research and Investor Relations Bronwyn Bailey. “Institutional investors are showing optimism in the industry’s ability to deploy capital, and this report validates that their capital is being effectively utilized across industries.”
