Before joining the AIC, James worked for two years as a Committee policy advisor for Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) in his role as Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee. As an advisor, he covered issues related to trade and investment, including controls on outbound investment and management of the reconciliation process.
James has extensive experience conducting Committee operations and covering compliance and pending regulatory issues, which involved oversight of regulators and agency rulemaking.
James also served for over three years on the Senate Banking Committee for the former Chairman. As a professional staff member, James drafted and negotiated legislation related to national security policy, including anti-money laundering, beneficial ownership reporting, export controls, sanctions, and other financial market issues. These federal policy negotiations considered complex issues that would impact the venture capital and private equity industry in the United States.
James earned his B.A. in Economics from the College of William and Mary, including completing their program in International Finance. A native New Englander, he was born in Connecticut, lived as an American expat in Singapore and now resides in Washington, DC.
