Rapid City Journal Columnist: Private equity firms often misunderstood

The Rapid City Journal published a column yesterday explaining private equity and its importance for public pension funds like the South Dakota Retirement System (SDRS), which invested ten percent of its $7.8 billion fund into private equity.  The column highlights how millions of Americans benefit from pension funds investing in private equity.

The article is just another example of how private equity’s impact can be felt across the country, not just the major population centers. A PEGCC analysis demonstrates private equity’s impact on the South Dakota economy.  Private equity firms have invested more than $910 million in South Dakota-based companies over the last ten years.  In 2011 alone, U.S. private equity firms invested over $150 billion in companies nationwide.
